Business as usual...

Iowa finally experienced a little taste of winter this past week, which provided a snow day for students and staff of PrairieWood last Monday.  It was back to business as usual upon our return on Tuesday.  We traveled to the grocery store to get our groceries for the week on Tuesday instead of Monday, and the rest of the week was smooth sailing.  Our feature blogger this week is Chelsey.  Here is what she has to say about her week at PrairieWood.

"This week at PrairieWood I learned about a baby bear in morning group.  I enjoyed going to lot 44 on the city bus.  I was challenged by cleaning the glass doors at the hotel.  At PrairieWood I would like to learn more about buying pie filling at Hy-Vee for the center."

Hello Winter!

Well, winter has FINALLY arrived and it is making up for its absence!  We feel like we have been battling weather all week at PrairieWood.  It is a good chance for us to learn how weather can change our plans.  Today would typically be our day to be doing recreation and leisure activities out in the community.  We all thought it may not be the safest to be out in the community today so we are having a day of recreation and leisure from "home" or the center.  We have ordered a pizza in for lunch and will spend time this afternoon playing games and our Wii at the center.  You can still have fun when you can't go out and about in the community!!!

Our feature blogger today is Sarah.  Here is what Sarah has to say about her week at PrairieWood...

"This week at PrairieWood I learned to work on the grocery flyer.  I enjoyed making S'mores.  I was challenged by Vacuuming.  At PrairieWood I would like to learn more about the city bus.  I really like Yellowbook and putting stickers on the booklet."

Short week, packed full!

We are coming to you a little early this week, as there is NO SCHOOL on Thursday, 1/12 and Friday, 1/13 due to Staff Development.  While it was a short week, we managed to keep ourselves busy.  Kendra, our feature blogger this week, will tell you all about it!

"This week at PrairieWood, I learned to go to Hy-Vee and find a large can of tomato juice, 1 bunch of bananas, and bread.  I enjoyed learning from News2You about the Iraq war ending.  I was challenged by my new job of cat liners at work.  At PrairieWood I would like to learn more about my friends."

Keep your eyes to the skies, and be sure to check out those weather forecasts...it appears snow is moving in!  According to our NEW January snow prediction calendar, Kendra and Ahsia are quite close with their predictions.  Kendra has 1/12 predicted for the first snow accumulation and Ahsia has 1/13.  Whose prediction will be right?!?  Be sure to travel safe...not sure if we all remember how to get around in that white stuff!!!

Mastering Daily Living Skills...

We spend a great deal of our time at PrairieWood working on Daily Living Skills.  Each student spends time during the week completing several household chores and on Fridays we deep clean the center as well.  We work on not only completing the task well, but also doing it in an appropriate time span.  This keeps us very busy, and keeps our center looking great!  Our blogger this week is Ahsia.  Here is what she has to say about her week at the center.

"This week at PrairieWood I learned to sweep.  I enjoyed eating spaghetti with meat sauce.  I was challenged by making Nachos.  At PrairieWood I would like to learn more about making more snack foods."
