It's All About the Chili!

We may be experiencing some unseasonably warm weather in Iowa, but it has been awfully "Chili" at PrairieWood this week!  The folks at the Linn Mar Success Center asked us to join in their 2nd Annual Chili feed.  We spent our cooking time this week preparing three very special chili's: Superhero Chili, Cha Cha Chili, and Cowgirl Chili.  We even made posters and decorated our tables in the theme of our chili.  Today we faced the judges.  We made good eye contact, spoke clearly, and shared about our chili.  Then we got to taste and enjoy everyone's creations for lunch.  It was a fun learning experience for everyone involved!  Our featured blogger this week is Kaitlyn.  Here is what she has to say about her week at PrairieWood...

"This week at PrairieWood I learned to find milk at Hy-Vee all by myself!  I enjoyed work.  I was challenged by getting the right numbered sizers at work.  At PrairieWood I would like to learn more about sweeping up popcorn.  I also learned I need to learn when to push the tape for my bus stop."

Enjoy the pictures from today's competition...

Ahsia and Chelsey show off their Cowgirl Chili!

Brandon and Kaitlyn practice their Superhero presentation.

Cassie and Sarah hand out samples of their Cha-Cha Chili to a judge.
We hope you have a great weekend!

Earning our Spring break!

What a busy week full of hard work!  We are very excited for a vacation from hard work and routine this next week.  We looked at the weather forecast and it is going to be BEAUTIFUL!  Please remember to keep track of the weather each day over spring break so we can mark it on our weather chart for the month of March.  Are the days sunny, partly sunny, cloudy, snowy, rainy, stormy, windy?  Write it down if you'll forget before school next week.

Our feature blogger this week is Brandon.  This is what he has to say about his week at PrairieWood.

"This week at PrairieWood I learned about Rec. Center walking.  I enjoyed shredding paper.  I was challenged by cutting coupons.  At PrairieWood I would like to learn more about chores."

ENJOY your break, get outside and enjoy the beautiful weather those meteorologists are forecasting!!!!

Art adventures!

Hello March!  We were so excited for the new month, and so ready for spring.  What is this snow all about?

PrairieWood students showing off their beautiful hand creations!

We embarked on a wonderful new journey this week at PrairieWood.  The Dreaming Bear, a wonderful shop in downtown Marion, welcomed us into their inspiring studio.  We spent over an hour this morning, with our creative juices flowing, painting wooden hands.  They will even be on display at The Dreaming Bear store.  Go check them out.  We loved the chance to just be artistic and paint!

Our feature blogger this week is Cassie.  This is what she said about her week at PrairieWood.

"This week at PrairieWood I learned about The Lorax movie in my News2You.  I enjoyed making lunch for my friends.  I was challenged by finding where things when when stocking at Pet's Playhouse.  At PrairieWood I would like to learn more about drawing and painting art.  We went to Dreaming Bear this week and had fun!!"

Have a great weekend!
